Charity Dive Day
Your questions answered:
What is it?
It is an event to raise money for the RNLI and MacMillan Cancer Trust
Where and when is it being held?
Throughout the day on 26th March at the Menai Bridge Pier and slipway.
Is it suitable for any level of experience and can we bring trainees for their first dive?
It will be fine for divers with a minimum level of open water experience but is probably not the best opportunity for a first open water dive.
Whereabouts are the dives going to be?
All of the dives will be carried out in the Menai Straits.
But isn’t the current really dangerous in the Straits?
Most of the diving will be carried out near Bangor Pier where the current is not strong.
How many dives do we do?
We will try to give everyone 2 dives, but the object is to get as many divers in the water throughout the day and therefore raise the maximum amount of money for the RNLI and MacMillan.
Will we all be diving at the same time?
No, we will be shuttling groups of divers out throughout the day and bringing them back to the Pier between dives to collect a new group.
So what time does it start?
The first group will leave the Pier at 9am and we should be back for the next group at 10.30, 12, 1.30 and 3 expecting to finish around 4-4.30
So I can turn up at any time?
We need to know what time you are likely to get here so that we can allocate you a spot on one of the shuttles. If you email us with your expected arrival, we will confirm which slot you are booked on for and so what time you need to be ready to get on the boat as we are asking divers to have their suits on and their kit ready to go to minimise the turnaround time.
If the boat is out with divers, who will meet me?
An organiser will be waiting near the Pier all day, they will meet you, give you a briefing and explain the plan for the day.
So how does this raise money for the charities?
Quest Charters has donated the use of its boat and staff for the day. So, by paying for your diving as you would for a normal days charter all this money will go directly to charity.
What about the cost of diesel?
Quest Charters will pay for the diesel so 100% of money donated goes to charity.
What is the suggested donation?
£50 per person as this is the cost of a normal days diving so this seems fair, remember every penny is going directly to charity.
Can the club bring their own boat?
Yes and you can launch at the Menai Bridge slipway. We are happy to advise on suitable dive sites for the day.
Will Quest Charters pay for the club boats fuel?
Sorry, but no!
Is there anything else happening?
Yes, at around 5pm we will all get together for the prize draw, light refreshments and donation of monies raised to representatives of the RNLI and MacMillan.
How do I enter the raffle?
Anyone who has raised money, or donated to the event will be automatically entered into the raffle. Prizes include an LED torch, a selection of masks, dive bags, overnight accommodation, plus other items to be confirmed.
Where will we get together?
The Bridge Inn, Menai Bridge
My family would like to come down, is there anything to keep them entertained?
The Beaumaris lifeboat will be in attendance
What is happening with the photo competition?
There will be a competition for the best photographs taken during the day, both above or below the water. These will be used to report the charity event to the diving press.
OK, I’m in, what do I do next?
Send us your details by email and approximate time of arrival, we will get back to you with your time slot on the boat. Just turn up on the day, with your kit including SMB and full cylinders as we will not have time to do air fills.
